Elf Basic Package
ST-1 (10), DX+1 (20), HT+1 (10), Fit (5), Magery 0 (5), Regeneration - Slow (Daily, 10), Regrowth (Campaign World Modifier -80%, 8 pts), Unaging (15), Dependency - Mana Level (See below, -15), TL -1 (-5). Total 43 pts
Death Elves (Ghasts)
Elf Package (43), Dependency: Death Energy (See below, additional -15) instead of the normal dependency, Magery 2 (+20), and Lifebane (-10). Total 38 pts.
Notes on the Racial Package
Campaign World Modifier: This is to represent advantages that need to be part of the profile but won't come up in play. Modify according to your desire (if your PCs will lose limbs, this is definitely worth more points).
Dependency-Mana: Elves require normal or high mana to function normally. Low mana areas (which, for my campaign included basically any town with a 2k+ population) affect them as per the weekly dependency rules (-10). No mana areas affect them at the hourly rate (-5). Very high mana areas are intoxicating - treat as drunk (-2 to all rolls) but they get Unkillable 1 (0 pts).
Dependency-Death Energy: While Death Elves use the same rules for Very High, Low, No Mana areas, but only the Death Aspected Areas or the spiritual energies of the freshly deceased can feed their normal mana needs. This is treated as a common (freshly dead, death aspected sites) dependency with the possibly illegal (may have to create dead people) modifier and therefore worth -30 instead of -15.
Unusual Racial Traits
Elves may possess Normal Regeneration (+15), Very Fit (+10), Normal TL (+5), Hard to Kill (up to +3), and Talents (Especially Artistic). Elves typically do not have ST above 13 as their muscles quickly "heal" back to their normal state. High magery (2+) is uncommon among most Elves. Death Elves do often possess excessive magery and can purchase any amount the campaign allows. Some Elves are especially sensitive to their natural environment and may purchase Oracle (only in imprinted/natural) environment. Death Elves often possess spirtual traits such as the Channeling or Medium advantages.
Elf Racial Background
When highland shaman Ruaidri healed his son sickly son, Aed, Ruadri inadvertantly created the Elf gene. Aed's three sons, Cuan, Glassan, and Diarmait were borne strong, healthy, and they later discovered they were immortal. These three brothers were the first Elves, and every Elf since has been descended from them.
All Elves are male. Any male child of an Elf will be an Elf, and any female child will be human. Elvish daughters that mate with a human male will have human children. Elvish daughters are eligible for an Unusual Background - Elf Daughter (5) which gives them access to Elvish things (favors, patron, allies, status, perhaps Elvish equipment).
When an Elf is born, it imprints to magic of its natural environment. Consequently as the Elven population spread it diversified into the Highland Elves (also known as the Highborne or High Elves), the lowland Sea Elves, the Forest Elves, and finally the Death Elves (Ghasts).
During the Elfwars, Elves were slaughtered. Settlements were destroyed then later re-settled. Where death (see Death Aspected Mana) clung the environment, newly born Elves imprinted on the magical essence left by death. These Elves became known as Death Elves. Death Elves have a dependency on spiritual energies, but are powerful mages - much more powerful than normal elves.
Some Death Elves are psychopaths that sate their dark needs by killing other sentients, but most are deeply spiritual. Most spiritual Death Elves tend to stick to their homeland where they commune with the spirits of their elders. Those spiritual Death Elves that do not make good PCs. Their deeply spiritual and magical nature makes them natural mediums, channellers, and shaman. The more psychotic variety make excellent villains.
Design Notes
Original making only Elves male was a simple way to skirt the reproductive issues an immortal female might have; however, it works rather well. Elven society is constantly growing (births outweigh the deaths, especially since the males are immortal) and Elven males are constantly looking for new (human) women.
