The Legion was founded less than two hundred years ago when the inhabitants united to drive out their vampire overlords. The subsequent society that formed was progressive, fearful of magic, and xenophobic. The Legion government is divided into three distinct bodies: the Watch, the Inquisition, and the Governance.
The Watch serves the Legion as police, army, and civil labor. Everyone serves in the Watch at least 2 years before becoming earning their civil rights. Children can begin their service at age 14 and become full citizens at age 16. At least 10% of the population will be serving at any one time, making the Watch one of the largest armies in the known world. Unlike most other countries, human infantry is the backbone of the army. Watch soldiers are well equipped and well drilled.
The Inquisition is a branch of the government devoted to protecting the Legion from the supernatural. This includes but is not limited to non-humans, mages, magic items, and certain types of lore. If you happen to fall into any of these categories you will either work for the Inquisition, be imprisoned, be executed, or be exiled. All members of the Inquistion are known as Inquisitors though internally they are divided by grades.
The Governance is the ruling body of the Legion. Many positions are decided by poll (vote and current popularity), others are appointed by an elected official. Both the Watch and the Inquisition report to the Governance, but often local authorities will have to request resources before their authority is recognized. Any citizen may take part in a poll or take office.
The Legion is a young techonolgically progressive nation. They are late TL3 with some advancements on the edge of TL4.
